More Classes!

As Loadout Lab goes live, Luke provides an update on the current classes being offered.

6 Years ago I got my first "Shooting industry" job as a Range Safety Officer. I was fresh out of the Marine Corps and thought it would be a good way to transition back to being a civilian. I mean, what else does infantry experience translate to if not the firearms industry? For some context, I had been a gun nut from a young age. Even before the military, i had more experience shooting than most adults i knew. Though everyone in my circle had passing familiarity with them. Anyway, I went into my first RSO job with the expectation that everyone who owns firearms was like me. They did research, they knew the dangers and took steps to mitigate them, they wanted to better themselves, or blow off steam, or subtly show off the new Geissele build they just completed.

I was wrong.

Maybe 10% of range-goers had any visible signs of familiarity with their personal firearms. They were unsafe, unacquainted, clumsy, inaccurate, and negligent. And although it sounds harsh for me to say that, I don't mean it in an accusatory way. It wasn't their fault, just another case of "we don't know what we don't know". So, i did my best to offer friendly advice when i could (without being that RSO that wants to tell you how wrong you are between each magazine). With each customer I helped, I learned more about the issues plaguing new shooters and what strategies can be implemented to set them on the path to improvement, and nothing was more satisfying than seeing someone's group tighten 50% in a single range session just by giving a few helpful tips. That's when the first seeds of an idea were planted in my mind. If only that 90% could know what the rest of us know, we would all be safer, more acquainted, more accurate, and have more fun.

That's what I've been focusing on this past month. Working on some kick ass fundamentals classes geared toward new or inexperienced shooters, to give them the foundation that all other skills are built on. If I could have it my way, every shooter in the Austin, Texas area would be brushed up enough to never need to take a Pistol Fundamentals Class ever again.

They'll be going live soon, keep an eye out!
